"Secret Angels helps my family by giving us food and lots of toys at Christmas. We get things my parents couldn't buy for us because we have so many medicines to buy and bills to pay. Secret Angels are angels to us because they take care of us."
The Baseball Angel
After several years of responding to the crisis of local families affected by AIDS, we organized a committee that then responded by organizing a banquet and silent auction. One of the women who is still alongside me today said, “I realize that none of us can meet these families face-to-face. But we’re asking people to donate to families we’ve never met. That presents many issues.”
The Refrigerator Story
One of our favorite stories dates back to the days when we were just a group of moms who gave Christmas presents to local kids with AIDS. A social worker from Carolinas Medical Center called me, remembering that our group had provided the gifts for their young clients.
She told me, “One of our mom’s refrigerator is going out. All of their medications are refrigerated. If they lose their refrigerator, in an hour all the meds will be gone.”
