About Us
The Secret Angels Project began as a simple angel tree outreach, providing Christmas gifts to children with/of AIDS/HIV right here in our own community.
But over time we were continually asked for assistance throughout the year. We couldn’t imagine not responding. So we started helping out with health crisis, food, clothing, utility bills, school supplies, even a kitchen appliance one year. But we had to work in secret so that the mom’s or child’s identity was protected. We hated the stigma but loved the fact that we could at least work in secret to help out. That’s how we came to be called the Secret Angels.
Today, the Secret Angels Project is a growing charitable organization that offers assistance for the many crises faced by these families. We offer assistance with:
- utility bills and rent
- clothing and coats
- back-to-school supplies
- food pantry items
- Christmas toys and Thanksgiving dinner
While we help mostly women and children, AIDS is no respecter of who it may attack next. So we're as flexible with our giving as this debilitating disease is random in who it strikes. The emerging demographics in the South can now range from teenage young women to adults over sixty-five, but especially those who feel "safe" in unsafe sex practices or intravenous drug used.
Now in our eighth year, we continue to increase our organization’s capacity and find better ways of supporting these very sick families in our neighborhoods and now across state lines. Our ten year plan will include educational assistance for helping women restore hope to their damaged home life and preventative programs that will target specific age groups.
